For Christine Leichtman, obtaining a regional rail pass to Philadelphia for the last weekend of September is not a matter of getting to see Pope Francis. It is a matter of getting to her job at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania then to Christiana Hospital in Delaware to fulfill clinical requirements for her nursing degree.
“I have to go to work and I have to go to school,” said the 52-year-old Wilmington, Del., resident who attends Neumann University in Aston.
Monday she was among thousands of frustrated customers seeking one-day regional rail passes for Sept. 26 and 27 from the website of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, or SEPTA. They had gone on sale via SEPTA’s website, www.septa.org , at 9 a.m. By 10:40 a.m., SEPTA had suspended sales until further notice due to technical problems.
