PHILADELPHIA >> The world has seen a significant shift in ideas pertaining to family and the family structure; however, one notion of family seems to be unwavering and that is the idea that family is the cornerstone of society.
This was the theme of the mayors forum Wednesday evening at Tom Gola Arena at La Salle University.
Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter was joined by New Orleans Mayor Mitchell Landrieu, Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and Columbia Mayor Stephen Benjamin, for a panel discussion centered on ways local government can strengthen and sustain the family through policy, lawmaking and advocacy in the diverse communities they represent.
A majority of Americans live in urban areas. Approximately 1 million people per week or 200,000 people per day leave the countryside for the city, James Kaiser, a partner at sponsor PricewaterhouseCoopers, said at the opening of the forum.
