MEDIA >> The whole of Mayor Bob McMahon’s monthly report was dedicated to preparation for the weekend of Pope Francis’s visit to Philadelphia.

McMahon said there have been almost daily meetings with various local, regional and other agencies, and further adjustments as the event neared.

As of the borough’s mid-September meeting, the number of passengers boarding at the SEPTA’s Media station was less than expected. McMahon said approximately 3,000 prepaid tickets had been sold for Saturday and approximately 4,000 for Sunday. The projection was slightly more than 10,000 for the weekend.

Those numbers still represent a significant impact on the borough and surrounding municipalities. As a point of interest, McMahon said SEPTA tracked tickets sold in 96 Pennsylvania towns and 25 other states.
