RIDLEY PARK >> Council approved a series of preparations Tuesday night for the impact to the community by the visit to Philadelphia of Pope Francis Sept. 26-27.

East Ward Street, from North Swarthmore Avenue to Cresswell Street, in front of the fire station, will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 26 and 27. Increased traffic with congestion is expected along Chester Pike from Friday evening through Monday morning of the pope’s visit. Trains will not be stopping to pick up or drop off passengers during the weekend event.

Additional police will be on patrol during the weekend of the event. Borough officials will be working directly with the Delaware County Emergency Operations Center. Public notifications will be post on the borough website at ridleyparkborough.org and Facebook at www.facebook.com/boroughofridleypark.

No trash will be picked up on Sept. 25 or Sept. 28. Borough-wide trash pick-up is scheduled for Sept. 24 and Sept. 29.
