Upper Providence >> Township officials want to set the record straight about preparations for the pope’s visit to Philadelphia.
Supervisors’ Chairwoman Lisa Mossie attempted at Monday’s meeting to defuse what she described as “low-level hysteria on the Internet” caused by an online article at Patch.com that predicted porta-potties and water stations would be installed on local streets with gridlock conditions on Route 422.
“I don’t know if this all stemmed from the fact we declared a state of emergency or this is the kind of hysteria that builds upon itself,” Mossie said.
Earlier in the month, the board adopted a resolution approving a “State of Emergency” for the upcoming visit of Pope Francis to Philadephia from Sept. 23 to 29, as jointly recommended by Fire Marshal Joshua Overholt and Police Chief Mark Toomey, with contributions made by other township advisors.
